After months of waiting, PA sports betting finally became a reality last week and now SugarHouse and Rivers Casino have joined the party.
The two casinos, operated by Rush Street Interactive, executed immaculate synchronized launches of their PA sportsbooks. Now that the testing period is over, the two sports books are official.
Although Hollywood Casino Sportsbook was first, the SugarHouse Sportsbook and Rivers Sportsbook launches created a lot of buzz in Pennsylvania, as the first two PA sportsbooks to open in the state’s largest cities – SugarHouse in Philadelphia and Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh.
The location of the Rivers Sportsbook is a cause for celebration for Pittsburgh Steelers fans in particular, since it’s a short walk away from the team’s home stadium, Heinz Field.
SugarHouse and Rivers Casino: Two PA Sportsbook Launches At Once
Both the SugarHouse Sportsbook and the Rivers Casino Sportsbook opened their doors at 2 pm on the dot on December 13. That is not to say the two PA sportsbooks didn’t go about the launch differently.
At Rivers Casino, the launch was treated not as the start of a testing period, but as a grand opening instead. Management made sure to start tweeting about the event a day in advance, and every few minutes during.
The SugarHouse sportsbook, on the other hand, sent out only a single tweet that same afternoon. The difference there is probably due to the fact that the Pittsburgh Steelers had a big game ahead of them that Sunday, whereas the Philadelphia Eagles did not. This lead to more pressure on Rivers Casino to draw attention to its PA Sportsbook as soon as possible.
The Eagles, however, will be facing the Houston Texans the Sunday before the holidays – a game that the SugarHouse Sportsbook definitely needs to be prepared for.
SugarHouse Sportsbook Has Big Plans For PA Sports Betting
It’s no secret the SugarHouse Sportsbook is planning for an online expansion. For months now, SugarHouse have watched DraftKings nearly monopolize NJ sports betting profits with its online sportsbook.
Rush Street Interactive is now hoping to make SugarHouse the market leader in Pennsylvania much like DraftKings has done in the neighboring state. The company is just waiting for the gun to go off, once online PA sports betting gets an official thumbs-up from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
