SugarHouse Online Sportsbook and Casino
Surprisingly, SugarHouse Casino is located in Philadelphia, not New Jersey. However, the company still manages to get a share of the NJ online casino market. Currently, SugarHouse Casino also succeeds in the sports betting market by integrating an online sportsbook into its online casino platform for New Jersey residents.
PlaySugarHouse.com used the licence of Golden Nugget to get access to the Garden State and began operating in September 2016. The company behind SugarHouse online casino platform is called Rush Street Interactive. Thanks to it, the website now includes over 200 different games:
- Free bonus bingo game
- Online slots
- Table games
- Video poker
SugarHouse has a huge advantage in the NJ online casino market thanks to its partnership with Golden Nugget. And now the company is about to enter the next big industry – NJ sports betting.

Regulated Sports Betting Comes to NJ
In May 2018, the US Supreme Court repealed the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) and allowed the legalization of sports wagering state by state.
Then in June 2018, sports betting was legalized in New Jersey by governor Phil Murphy. The Garden State is the third after Nevada and Delaware to introduce regulated sports gambling to its residents.
The first ones to enter the new market were Borgata and Monmouth Park, followed by Ocean Resort Casino in June, Bally’s and Meadowlands Racetrack in July.
In the beginning of August, DraftKings Sportsbook announced their mobile app for sports betting in New Jersey. During next months we should expect more companies to launch their mobile sportsbooks, including Caesars Entertainment and MGM Resorts International.
The Partnership between Rush Street and Kambi
Just several days after the US Supreme Court annulled PASPA, a new partnership was formed. Rush Street Interactive formed a collaboration with a well-known tech company from the sports betting world.
We are talking about Kambi Group. Rush Street relies on Kambi to offer retail and online sports betting. The two companies have also discussed the integration of Kambi’s sports betting software into the online gambling platform of Rush Street.
Richard Schwartz, the president of Rush Street, announced the following:
“we are confident we have found that partner and, following the recent Supreme Court ruling, look forward to launching a high-quality Sportsbook in the U.S., as well as other regulated markets internationally.”
Before the deal, Rush Street had only the SugarHouse online casino, so this new opportunity will help the company enter the regulated sports wagering business.
Kambi itself is known for being one of the top companies worldwide which provide sports betting. After the new partnership with Rush Street, the group now officially operates in six continents. Later this year, Kambi formed another collaboration with DraftKings to build up its sportsbook.
SugarHouse Offers Both Online Casino & Sports Betting
In fall 2016, SugarHouse became part of the NJ online casino industry without any loud media fuss. However, it has surely contributed for the top positions of Golden Nugget in the monthly revenue battle.
Since the legalization of online casino in New Jersey in 2013, Golden Nugget Casino has announced the biggest revenue and recently became the first casino to exceed $200 million. Don’t get us wrong – SugarHouse isn’t the flagship sub-brand, but still it contributes with a stable $1 million revenue on a monthly basis.
In November 2017, SugarHouse added a new feature – virtual sports betting. This means that users can place bets on virtual sport events and their outcome is set by a random number generator.
2018 is definitely the year of regulated sports betting in New Jersey. SugarHouse might be in for another big revenue stream thanks to the partnership between Rush Street and Kambi. When they sealed the deal, Rush Street noted that it “plans to launch a sportsbook solution within selected states where permitted.”
And New Jersey is one of the states in mind. So there’s a chance that Rush Street selects PlaySugarHouse.com to test its online sports wagering platform.
Greg Carlin, the CEO of Rush Street, explained several more details regarding this plan:
“In addition to providing sports enthusiasts with a better, safer environment, today’s Supreme Court decision will redirect revenue previously lost to the black market and instead generate much needed tax revenue at state and local levels,” Carlin said. “We look forward to adding sports betting across all our gaming platforms as soon as possible.”
