Good news for sports fans – Harrahs Online Casino is entering the gaming market in Philly. The operator requested a license to offer sports betting. This will make Harrahs the third PA online casino to do so.

Its owner Caesars Entertainment spent the required tax of 10 million dollars to appeal in front of the Gaming Control Board in Pennsylvania. All that without a steady confirmation date of the acceptance.

Will the third one be the charm? Together with Hollywood Casino and Parx Casino, Harrahs is the third one to appeal. Parx Casino also applied to provide sports betting in Pennsylvania in its Turf Club betting venue in South Philly.

Harrahs Online Casino Can Afford To Be Licensed

From mid-April this year, PA Online Casinos were able to get a gambling license, but most of them waited for months before actually doing it.

Having in mind that Pennsylvania is among the most populated states, a much bigger interest was expected. However, only 3 of 13 candidates applied, the last one being the Harrahs Online Casino.

Wondering why? Well, one of the reasons is definitely the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board requirement for a license fee of $10 million.

This amount is much higher than the one in other states. Just to compare, the application fee in New Jersey and West Virginia is 100,000 dollars, which is 100 times less than the one in Pennsylvania.

Not only that, the tax on wagering is also 3 times higher than in the same neighboring states mentioned above. Taxation for PA online casinos is 36%, while West Virginia and NJ casinos pay about 10 to 13%.

Rhode Island state is the only exception, having such a high tax rate. Nevertheless, the administration’s high support level for both state casinos makes it more reasonable somehow.

PA Online Casinos Will Progress Against All Odds

With Harrahs being the third candidate for legislation, PA Online Casinos are progressing and leaving their mark in the Pennsylvania sports betting industry. The fact that the tempo is a bit slower than the one of neighboring states, doesn’t diminish the efforts.

Owners of Harrahs Casino are aware that online wagering is developing at a higher speed compared to sports betting. Therefore, there is a rush to get this market before everyone else.

Currently, only two PA casinos haven’t appealed for the right to provide online sports betting. Harrahs Online Casino has paid the 10 million dollar fee to offer online poker, online slots, and online table games.

Three from the applicants are now legal PA online casinos – Hollywood, Parx and Harrahs. At the moment only logistical obstacles stand in their way and they are dwelling with stakeholders on launching a site.

The only thing left for us is to watch and find out who will be the first.
